Welcome to the server!

We're a friendly SMP server here to vibe, have fun, and build together. We hope you enjoy.

The Other SMP is more than just survival — it's a living world shaped by its players. Feed The Core to earn server-wide buffs and push the world border further out. Build and manage Towns to claim land and grow with friends. Climb daily task boards, trade Essence with the community, and set up player warps for others to visit.

Whether you're a builder, a trader, or just along for the adventure, you'll always find something worth doing.

The Core

Feed materials into the Core to charge it up. As more players pitch in, the Core's energy builds toward a critical point — and when it hits full capacity, it triggers a surge.

During a surge, all online players receive a temporary boost: faster mining, health regeneration, improved tool efficiency. Once the surge ends, the Core resets and is ready to be charged again.

Every surge also expands the world border. The more the community charges the Core, the more of the world opens up to explore.

Work together, and be rewarded.

Gameplay Tweaks

Natural Paths

Walk enough over grass and it naturally degrades — first to dirt, then coarse dirt, then a dirt path. Your world tells the story of where you've been.

Instant Plant Harvesting

Right-click a fully grown plant to instantly harvest and replant it. Yields 1–3 items with an increased chance of multiple drops.

Double Door Sync

Double doors open and close simultaneously — manually or via redstone. No more awkward half-open doors.

Button Container Sorting

Press a button to automatically sort all chest-like containers within a 1-block radius.

Item Finder

Use /finditem to search nearby containers. Or shift-right-click any item in your inventory to find matching items in nearby chests.

Heads Menu

Access over 32,000 decorative player heads via /heads. Exchange a bone for the head of your choice.

Fast Minecarts

Minecarts carrying passengers travel at twice the normal speed, making rail travel a genuinely viable option for long distances.

Death Graves

When you die, a grave spawns at the exact location of your death containing all your items. Only you can open your own grave, so your belongings are safe until you return.

Each grave displays a hologram above it showing your name and the time of death, making it easy to locate when you come back to retrieve your items. Retrieval is free — just walk up and open it.

Graves expire after 7 days. If a grave isn't collected within that window, the items drop to the ground at the grave's location.

Voice Chat

No mods are required to play on the server. Everything works out of the box with a vanilla Minecraft client.

That said, we strongly recommend installing the Simple Voice Chat mod. It adds proximity-based voice chat — only nearby players can hear you, and volume fades naturally with distance. It makes the server feel a lot more alive, especially when building with friends or stumbling across someone in the wild.

We've put together a recommended Modrinth modpack with Simple Voice Chat and a handful of nice optimisation client mods. Install it in minutes and connect as normal — the server handles the rest.

If you're using the mod and would rather not hear a specific player, you can silence them for yourself without affecting anyone else.

/vignore <player> — Mute a player's voice for yourself. Run again to unmute.
/vignore — List who you're currently ignoring.

Discord

Our Discord is the main hub for the community — it's where updates drop, players chat, bugs get reported, and decisions happen. If you're playing on the server, you should be in the Discord.

You'll find channels for general chat, server announcements, trading, and more. It's the fastest way to get help, stay in the loop, and connect with everyone else on the server.

Live Map

The server runs a live 3D map of the world, updated in real time. Explore the terrain, find player builds, scout out towns, and get your bearings before you set off.

The map shows player positions, town boundaries, and the full overworld layout in real time. Useful for planning your next build, scouting out towns, or just seeing how far the world has grown.

🌎 Open Live Map

Towny

Claim and protect your land by joining or founding a Town. Towns pool resources, grow their borders as more residents join, and can unite with other towns under a Nation.

Towns have a daily upkeep drawn from the town bank — keep it funded or risk losing your claims. As your town grows in residents, it levels up and unlocks new titles for its mayor.

Town Levels

Towns grow from a humble Outpost led by a Pioneer, through Hamlet, Village, Town, Borough, City, Duchy, and all the way to a Capital led by an Archduke.

Nation Levels

Nations rise from an Alliance under a Chieftain, through Realm, Dominion, Kingdom, and Empire, up to The Realm, ruled by a High Emperor.

Managing your town is straightforward — use /tm to open the town menu, /nm for the nation menu, and /plm for your plot menu. Everything you need is a click away.

/tm — Open the town management menu.
/nm — Open the nation management menu.
/plm — Open the plot management menu.
/town — View your town status.
/town new <name> — Found a new town — costs 1,000 Essence.
/town join <name> — Join an open town.
/town invite <player> — Invite someone to your town.
/town claim — Claim the chunk you're standing in — costs 50 Essence.
/nation new <name> — Found a nation — costs 5,000 Essence.
/res — View your resident profile.

Daily Tasks

A fresh set of tasks is generated every day at midnight. Complete them to earn XP and Essence — and if you finish all of them, your achievement is announced to the whole server.

Tasks cover a range of activities — gathering, crafting, hunting, exploring — so there's always something relevant to what you're already doing.

/tasks — View your current daily tasks and progress.

Town Tasks

Towns have their own set of daily tasks, completed collectively by all residents. Rewards are paid directly into the town bank — a great way to cover upkeep without anyone needing to manually deposit.

When all town tasks are completed, an announcement is broadcast to the server.

/towntasks — View your town's current tasks and progress.

Player Warps

Create a personal warp point that any player on the server can visit. Point it at your base, your shop, or anywhere worth sharing.

Every visit costs the user a small Essence fee — which goes directly to you. A passive way to earn from a popular location.

/warp — Open the warp browser or manage your own warp.
/warp create <name> — Create your warp (costs Essence).
/warp set — Update your warp to your current location.
/warp setname <name> — Rename your warp.
/warps — Browse all player warps.

Bounty Board

The Bounty Board lets players post item-want listings — request specific items from the community and offer Essence in return. The Essence you offer is set aside when you post a listing, so whoever fills it is always paid — and you get it back if nobody does.

Post

Open the Bounty Board and create a listing. Specify the item you want and the Essence you're offering. Your offered Essence is reserved when you post, so the reward is always guaranteed.

Fulfil

Any player can browse open bounties and fulfil one by delivering the requested items. The Essence is paid out to you straight away.

Claim

Once a bounty is fulfilled, the poster receives the items. Bounties that aren't fulfilled before they expire are cancelled automatically, your Essence is returned to you automatically.

A small listing fee applies when posting a bounty.

/bounty — Open the Bounty Board.
/bounty post — Create a new bounty listing.
/bounty cancel — Cancel one of your active listings.
/bounty claim — Claim items from a fulfilled bounty.

Seasonal Events

From time to time, the server runs special events that give everyone a boost while they're active. Each event is different — but they all make the usual things you do a bit more rewarding.

Core Boost

Everything you feed to The Core counts for more, so surges come faster when an event is running.

Bonus XP

Your daily and town tasks pay out more XP than usual for the duration of the event.

Bonus Essence

Daily and town tasks also pay out extra Essence, so it's a good time to work through the list.

Some events also include a server-wide challenge — a shared goal that everyone works toward together. Your progress is shown on screen while the event is running. When the goal is reached, every player who pitched in gets an Essence reward, even if they're not online at the time.

Essence

Essence is the server's currency, earned through gameplay and spent on features like town creation, plot claiming, warp usage, and more.

Send Essence to other players to trade, tip, or pay for services.

/bal — Check your Essence balance.
/essence send <player> <amount> — Send Essence to another player.

Essence Lottery

Each week, a lottery draw takes place at Sunday noon. Players can buy tickets beforehand, and one ticket is drawn at random — the holder wins the entire pot.

Tickets cost 50 Essence each, with a maximum of 5 tickets per player per draw. You don't need to be online when the draw happens — if your ticket wins, the Essence is added to your balance automatically.

If no tickets have been purchased, no draw is held that week.

/lottery — View current lottery status and pot size.
/lottery buy [count] — Buy one or more tickets for this week's draw.
/lottery info — Check how many tickets you hold.

Help us make the server better for everyone.
